WELLINGTON CUP MEETING. “Glencoe” in the Dominion referring to the Wellington Cup Handicap says: Warstep. the top weight, will be an absentee, but every inducement has been held out to First Glance (9st 21b.) to come up, and if her trainer decides to bring her she is certain to give- a good account of herself. She was third to. Desert Gold and Warstep in the Stead Cup, run in record time, won the Members’ Handicap, and at Dunedin at Christmas she scored on the first day under Ost. 61b., and with TUst. 41b. on a heavy track on the second day .she was only beaten by a head. Chortle (9st. 31b.) and Balboa (Ost lib.) seem correctly placed, as is Indigo, (Sst. 9Jb.), but, the haudjcapper seems to have, been a trifle severe on Eligible (Bst. 81b.). However, a careful' analysis of his form shows the tltree-year-old to, he good, and he ha.s already won five races this season. Rinaldo (Bst. Gib.) seems to be too unlucky to win a big race, But he has been given a great chance to break In’s spell. Hcwi Poto fSst. 2ib.) and Square Deal (Tst. 121 b.) may hardly be class enough, but Sir Solo (Bst.) is reported a s coming back to form, and likely to be at his best on January 20. Welcome Nugget (7st. 121 b.) seems to be the blot of the handicap, and must be regarded as really well in considering hit; Mannwata Cnp form. Taringamutu (7st. 71h.) is held safe by Welcome Nugget on Xwapuni form. The eye of the handicap seems to he Snub (Tst. lib.) A useful tbree-year-old with no weight on his hack must always he dangerous in any handicap up to twelve furlongs.
