The monthly meeting of the Stratford Borough Council will he held on Monday evening.

At the Egmont Club this evening, a farewell social will he given to recruits for the 12th Reinforcements. All soldiers on leave, returned men, and members of the Egmont Club are also invited to be present.

While on his way home from business at Eltham last evening. Mr Jack Witt was accosted by two men and assaulted. Mr Witt was riding his cycle and when Hearing Ngaere he saw a trap containing two men coming towards him ; he immediately drew over on to the left side of the road and as he did so the driver of the gig also took the same side. Mr Witt was forced,to dismount to save an accident, and while he was walking his machine one of the men alighted from the trap and struck him The other occupant of the trap al«o joined in the fray and Mr Witt was badly pummeled. It is stated tliat the two were drunk, and this may possibly account for the assault. Mr Witt has placed the matter in the hands of police.
