Three hundred and fifty riflemen the first instalment of Mr Carmichael's Riflemen's Battalion cabled on 23rd November, have gone into camp. Melbourne, January 6. Sir Douglas Mawson is seeking acceptation for active service, and will ' probably be appointed* to the com-. ' maiid of a company of Engineers in the new army. AUSTRALIAN FLYING SQUADRON. (Received 9.55 a.m.) Melbourne, < January 0. ' The authorities are sending an Australian Flying Squadron to the - front. The men will be trained in the Commonwealth with machines obtained from England. Colonel Revholds will command the squadron.
