London, December 27, General Tovvnshend reports that the enemy heavily shelled a fort on the north side of Kut Peninsula on the morning of Friday, and entered the fort, but. they were driven out, leaving two hundred dead. Fierce lighting for the possession of the fort commenced at midnight. The enemy occupied the bastion but retired to their trenches on Christmas morning. Ihe garrison were in excellent spirits, and re-occupied the trenches. Th e whole division attacked, and the Turks lost seven hundred. Our losses were 190.
