A new military police system has been established in camp, whereby the privates for a month’satisfactory duty will be awarded a lance-corpor-alcy. In futiire on the third offence for drunkenness or absence without leave, the offenders will he discharged from the forces and thek names advertised. Stringent arrangements are being made for clearing the city streets of drunken, leave-less, apd im-postdr*i£fe.-soldiers. The Commandant strongly appeals to the, citizens to refrain: ’from “shouting” for soldiers, and declares that ninety per cent of those so tempted are used to drink.

THE AUSTRALIAN NAVY. WORK ON THE TRANSPORTS. United Press Association. (Received 9.10 a.m.) Melbourne, December 24. The Minister, Mr Jensen, has decided that in future the alterations to the transports must be carried out by the Navy Department. The work was previously entrusted to private firms, but this proved unsatisfactory. Mr, Jensen is now entrusting the work to farious unions, a foreman of each union concerned being appointed and each foreman made responsible lor the construction to the branch of the Navy Department which buys all the materials, the unions to select their own foreman. Mr Jensen realises that the step is a bold one, but he feels sure that now that each union is responsible for the faithful out carrying of the work entrusted to it, it will endeavour to rise to tile occasion.

HOSPITAL SHIP AT ALBANY. United Pbess Assooiaxiom. (Received 9.10 a.ra.) Perth. December 24. A New Zealand hospital ship arrived at Albany, carrying 128 officers and men under the charge of Colonel Collins. With the exception of thirty-eight cot cases, all aboard are most convalescent. Sydney, December 23. Died of wounds: Sapper A. Garden. Wounded: Sergeant S. Barnard (disembarked at Malta), J. Jaurenson. Ill: Corporal H. McKnight, Privates C. K. Robinson. J, Austin (disembarked at Malta)', W. Harrison, J. King, W. M. O’Connor (in hospital at Birmingham). Previously'reported ill, now wounded: QuartermasterSergeant A. Hi. Brewer (disembarked at Malta), Private D. McDade (in hospital at Epsom). Returned to Egypt on duty; G. A. Crutchfield, B. i Leroy.
