TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. Excellent acceptances have been received for first day's racing at the Taranaki Jockey Club's Christmas meeting to be held on Monday, December 27. The second day will be on Tuesday, December 28. As the profits from this year's meeting go to swell the fund of the Patriotic Committee, from present appearances it promises to be a record. Mr T. Cameron will officiate at the starting barrier and the adjusting of weights for the second day will be in the capable hands of Mr Alec Shannon. All that remains to make the meeting an unqualified success is fine weather and a large attendance, which, from present indications, are very probable. STRATFORD RACES. The engagement of the Wanganui Garrison Band by the Stratford Racing Club for its meeting last year was an undertaking of no small magnitude, and it is obvious that the servicel- - 30 players, who compri' best band in the Dominion, i.M who [have carried all before them in competitions, could not be secured without considerable expense. The Club's committee, however, are evidently well pleased with the experience and have engaged the same band again for their forthcoming meeting to be held on Saturday and Monday, Ist and 3rd January. The music provided by the band last yea 1 ;-, was delightful and visitors to the Stratford races will doubtless be pleased to know that the same pleasure awaits them this yeir. j
