WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETINC. At the meeting on Monday Cr. A. Meredith presided, and there were present: Crs. A. Coyne } H. A. McLeod ? M. Geever, and W. A. McCutchan.
The Rev. A. Norrie was granted lease of road reserve (Prospect Road) from January 1, 1916, at £1 per annum, rental in advance. It was resolved on the motion of Crs. McLeod and Geever : That the matter of providing a sledge track, or I overhead line, or temporary bridge, at the first large washout on the ,\Vhanga Road at a cost not to exceed £5 be left in the hands of Cr. Geever and the Engineer with power to act. The Engineer's report was read and adopted. The tender of M. C. Aagaard for dog collars at 7Jd each was accepted, and C. Roberts was appointed dog-tax collector for the year.
i On the motion of Crs. Meredith and 'McCutchan, it was resolved that Mr Rentoul be informed that the Council has the greatest difficulty in obtaining labor in opening up the Kahi and other roads, but the Council is prepared to pay settlers to open up their roads, and further, that the Engineer is endeavoring to let the work by contract. Re A. C. Moore's application for lease of road reserve on Rerekapa Road, it was resolved, on the motion of Crs. McCutchan and Meredith, that the clerk ascertain if the reserve is in Whangamomona County, and if so advise Mr Moore that upon application of Messrs Roberts and James } the Council would be prepared to consider «ame and also would he advise what amount of rent- he had already paid to the Clifton County Council.
The request of the Petone Borough Council in the circular letter regarding pensions was agreed to.
In view of the Council's office being opened weekly in future, instead of .monthly, and in view also of the large increase of work, the clerk was granted an increase of salary to £l5O per annum as from October Ist last. A. Cockhead, jura., waited on the Council re leasing road reserve near the junction of Putikituna and Tangarakau streams. The Council decided to grant same at a rate of 2s 6d per acre (8 acres) payable in advance.
Mr Coulton was granted permission to fence across the road from the corner of the pound building. The Clerk, was instructed to apply tor a loan of £250 to construct three bridges over the Whangamomona stream, on the Whangamomona Road. Mrs .Williams is to be notified that the Council wish to resume Elie Huikama pound grazing paddock as from January next.
The Public Works Department is to be asked to metal new deviation made by the Department in connection with the railway construction on the Ohura Road, opposite J. Rougkan's property, as otherwise the road will be impassable next winter.
It was resolved that the Public Works Department be requested to give balance of grant for the Rumiputa Road to the Council, which is desirous of completing the work already begun. Accounts amounting to £669 5s 3d were passed for, payment.
