SENSATIONAL LIBEL.
THE GLOBE AND MRS ASQUITH.
United Pbebb associates. London, December 22
The court was crowded tor the Asquith libel case. Mrs Asquith with M'- Anthony Asquith, her daughter, and Lady Diana Manners were present. , Mr Duke said that the Weekly London Mail last May accused Mrs Asquith of playing tennis wrth German officers at Dorriugton Hall. Though the paper apologised and paid damages the slanders continued, until the Globe on November 29 published a letter accusing a Cabinet Minister's wife of sending a large and choice selection of comestibles purchased in Piccadilly to Hun prisoners. Another letter said that if Mr Asquith handed his salary to his wife as pin money the public had no right to complain if she used the money as asserted.
Defendants expressed unqualifiec regret and submitted to a.n injunction pending the libel action. Mr Petersen remarked that the Globe's statements were absolutely without foundation.
