STRATFORD DOMAIN BOARD
FIRE BRIGADE AND TENNIS GLU B. A meeting of the Domain Board was hold yesterday afternoon, when there were present: Air Cl. N. Curtis (chairman), Messrs T. H. Penn, I’. Thomson, 'll. McK. Morison, and W. P. Kirkwood. The Mayor (.Mr J. W.- Boon), who waited on the Board on behalf of the Council, said some years ago the matter of granting the Fire Brigade the ground was discussed, and it was thought that if the water was laid on the park, the holding of Fire Brigade demonstrations would be ensured. The laying-on of the water was done tor the convenience of the Brigade and saving of the hose by practising on the grass instead of on the streets. It was arranged to,put in 6-inch pipes and to allow the Brigade a strip of 40 feet. The Council was surprised at the alteration being made, and the erection of the fence made the work done useless. Mr Kirkwood said the Board should grant the Brigade the ground required. Mr Morison said, in his view the Brigade should he granted the use of the ground for the present. It was clear that if a motion was carried it would not bind the Board in any way in years to come. In about five years or so, the Board might wish to plant the land. Mr Boon said he did not expect to get the permanent right of the land. The Chairman moved, and Mr Kirkwood seconded: That the Fire Brigade be granted the ground, a strip of 30 feet wide, running from east to west, partly levelled, and have prior right as against other applicants, during the pleasure oi the Board.—Carried. Mr Morison moved: That the Stratford Tennis Club be permitted to extend their courts 100 feet west from the present courts on the ground granted to the Hockey Club, on condition that, at their own expense, and to the satisfaction of the Board, they level, grass, and make it lit to play in the proper season, a further .1.00 leet west for the full width of the hockey ground for hockey; that they deposit a. sum of £2O, ahd that, where the Board direct, stiles bo erected by the said club.—Seconded by Mr Kirkwood and carried. , ■ Mr Penn moved, and Mr Thomson seconded: That the club bo informed that the grant of ground is conditional that they utilise, to the* satisfaction of the Board, all the ground enclosed, the same to be kept in good order.— Carried.
