THE SUEZ CANAL. "A PAGEANT OF EMPIRE.” [United Press Association.) London, December 18. The Pall Mall Gazette’s Cairo correspondent says that there is no doubt but that winter will witness a renewal of the Turkish attack on the Canal. With the object of mobilising the largest possible forces in Egypt we are rapidly staging a pageant of Empire. The Australians and New Zealanders occupy the Heliopolis area, Home troops are stationed at Alexandria and Cairo, and the Indians are on the Canal. The Canadian hospital recently arrived, and it only requires the South Africans to complete the picture of Imperial unity. ; GERMANY AND EGYPT. TOO GREAT*AN UNDERTAKING. (Received 9 a.m.) Paris, December 19. Le Temps’ military critic declares that we must expect a German attack at Dvinsk or on the Western front. Germany would like Egypt, but such are the great national difficulties of the expedition that she could not he ready until three months. This does not suit Germany t who wants a decisive result immediately.
