HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. “THE BETTER MAN.” The famous Players production of
“The Better Man”‘attracted a good house at His Majesty’s Theatre last 'night. Mark Stebbing and Lionel Barfuore are two young clergymen, both 'friends, each love the same woman—iMargarot Wharton, the daughter of a wealthy capitalist. The Bishop of th Diocese has two vacancies which require rectors; one ol the churches i* that the St. Ormonds, the broken and deserted Church of the slums, and the other is that o fSt. Hilda. The old Bishop dies, and Bar more and Stebbing are both named as candidates for the Bishophric. On the day of the election of bishops, M harton s men go on strike, and Stebbing learns of a dynamite plot against the works, and stops it just in time to save Wbarton’s entire prosperity from ruin. Iheu a strike commences, and the infuriated toughs place Margaret in a shed amongst deadly explosives. Stebbing again comes to the rescue, and prevents the Militia from firing upon the strikers. A good programme supports the star production, including the latest War Gazette and others.
