THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.

SEVENTH PRODUCE SHIPMENT FROM NEW PLYMOUTH.

ESTIMATED VALUE £74,067.

The seventh shipment of this sen sou’s produce to he exported Irom Xow Plymouth will bo taken to Wellington by the Comma on Monday, and will comprise 10,705 boxes oi butter and probably 7500 crates oi cheese, for transhipment to the Home liner Mamari. There is some doubt about the actual quantity of cheese to bo exported. The agents of the Mamari have notified that they can only take 6000 crates, but an endeavour is being made to arrange for space for 7500 crates. It is expected the butter will bring £36,567 10s on the Home market, and 7500 crates of cheese should realise £3l ,50Q, making the total value of the shipment £74,067 10s. The quantities of butter and cheese .exported from Taranaki this season, and the amounts the produce is expected to realise arc: — From New Plymouth.—Butter boxes 60,532, cheese crates 27,407, estimated value £329,067. From Patea.—Butter boxes 15,066, crates cheese 48,594, estimated value £262,107. Grand totals.—Butter boxes 75,598, crates cheese 76,001, estimated value £591,174. RECORD SHIPMENT FROM AUCKLAND. BUTTER WORTH £212,044. A record shipment of produce was made from Auckland for London by the steamer Rangatira, which commenced the Homeward voyage a few days ago. The cargo carried by the steamer is estimated to be the most valuable ever taken from New Zealand in ono vessel. The Auckland portion comprised 67,007 boxes of butter, 3505 crates of cheese, 6515 quarters of beef, 1196 carcases of mutton, 244 carcases of lamb, 21 carcases of veal, 1000 bales of wool, and general cargo, the whole being worth over £500,000. The shipment of butter, the fifth from Auckland this season, is worth approximately £212,044 f.o.b. It is not only the largest sent by one steamer from Auckland, but it is also larger than the record quantity lifted by two steamers in - the last week of November last year. The latter comprised 65,842 boxes, of which the Rakaia took 40,673 boxes and the lonic 25,169 boxes. The consignments by the Rangatira represent the accumulation of three weeks’ production; those by the Rakaia and the lonic a year ago were the output of four weeks.

The export of butter from Auckland since the beginning of ' the season on July 1 now amounts to 202,349 boxes. ( as compared with 188,233 boxes during the corresponding period of last year. The increase for the season is 14,110 boxes, or nearly 8 per cent. Shipments to London arc greater by 40,083 boxes than last season, this increase being equivalent to over 30 per cent. On the other hand, the shipments to Vancouver have practically ceased. The deliveries of butter for local consumption from the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company’s store show a considerable reduction, evidently owing to the high retail price. During the past live months, 11,790 boxes have been absorbed by the local market, as compared with 16,303 boxes during the corresponding period if last year. A portion of the local requirements is, of course, always met by supplies delivered directly from the factories to the retailers.

The value of the butter exported this season is approximately £686,307. The value of last season’s shipments to the 'beginning of December was approximately £527,052.

Consignments of cheese amounting to 3505 crates were also made by the Rangatira. This made a total tor the season of 8294 crates, as compared with 4678 crates last year.
