British Sub-Lieutenant Viney ami French Lieutenant Desincay describe the destruction of a submarine cabled on the 29th November.., Cruisers, at a height of ten thousand feet sighted two submarines Jive miles from the coast. The sea was shallow and they were unable to dive. One hurried off in a zig-zagged flight. The aviators descended to 600 feet and attacked the other, which less readily answered its helm. They dropped the first bomb, which effectually damaged the deck, and the second bomb broke her in halves and she sank. An everwidening sheet of oil on the water told all they wanted to know. Viney gets the Victoria Cross and Desincay the Legion of Honor. HILL LINER DAMAGED, (Received 8.55 a.m.) New York. December o. The Hill liner Minesota is returni iug to San Francisco in a damaged condition. Three men were arrested on a charge of causing an explosion in the engine room. Owing to the vessel’s slowness in making port, shipping circles believe the damage is serious.
