A Berne message states that a dmonstration of Berlin workers which occurred in consequence of the scarcity of food was broken by the military. The soldiers fired on the crowd, and it is estimated two hundred were killed and hundreds wounded.

The minority want immediate peace on the principle of renunciation of the new territory, whilo the majority consider the Chancellor (Non Bethmann-Holweg) cannot he forced to Jay down such a principle, because it would lie taken abroad as a sigh of weakness.
