HOLIDAYS BEFORE DUTY. Per Press Association. Wellington, December 3. District headquarters at Palmerston North advised to-day that ol >5 available men who were warned to go into camp yesterday, only 35 did so, the balance explaining that they preferred to take their Christmas and Now Tear holidays ’before entering Irentham. This development raises grave concern regarding even the existing registra tions for the Eleventh Reinforcements, and it is evident that public opinion has need to assert itsell, if the required number is to be secured by the 14th iiist. The authorities declare that it is quite impossible to give the troops in camp the Christmas holidays, 'as otherwise New Zealand cannot fulfil her engagement to keep up the firing line. Therefore they hope for the necessary response. NEARLY 8000 CASUALTIES. Wellington, December 3.
