The Following statement was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs today : “There has been some discussion in the press of Wellington lately regarding patriotic fpnds, ( especially about motleys' arising out of the carnival iil connection witli certain carnival queen committees which have not been paid over. . The matter has, bqj'g brycght Stifbrb the Minister of Internal Affairs in his capacity as administrator of the War Funds Act of last - session. An application was recently made, at first verbally, and subsequently by letter, to the secretary of a earniyal committee for the names of the officers, and especially the treasurers, of the carnival committees, which' have not yet accounted to the central "committee. Up to this morning.no reply has been received, and the Minister and Ins Department are taking steps to discuss with the colleagues in the (lovermnent what steps shall he taken for the purpose of insisting upon the immediate accounting of moneys to the vyuipWfrton ’Patriotic Committee of funds received by these carnival queen committees..’.’
