The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1915 A. AND P. SHOWS.
The Egrnont A. and P. Association’s Show opened to-day under encouraging circumstances, fair weather, good entries, and a large attendance favoring this important annual fixture of our southern neighbours. Providing there is line weather again to-morrow, a big contingent of visitors from the Stratford district will,, as usual, travel to Hawera to swell the crowd on. People’s Day. It is very noticeable how liberally outside entries have been received at Hawera, and Stratford has sent a goodly number. Exhibitors who go to- the trouble of sending their stock to a Show at some distance from their own centre, are greatly to be commended. Further, by the time their own fixture of a similar nature comes round, if it takes place a little later (as is the case with the Hawera and Stratford Shows) there is always the incentive to retain honours won at the earlier competition against all comers, or, if defeated, to again see if, by a little extra care, in getting up for Show purposes, one cannot turn the tables in a friendly way when the competition has been a close one. When the Stratford A. and P. Show •entries close this year, it will be a pleasing thing to find a greater total than ever before, and. if our district is loyal to its own interests there certainly ought to be by far the biggest array of local exhibits ever seen on the Stratford Show ground. On all hands there is evidence of the improvement in the stock throughout the Stratford District, and farmers are realising that to-day “anything” will not do. What each one should attempt is to produce some entry which will ho an object lesson to his neighbours. Many farmers have entries well worthy to stand in competition with the average of the Show ring, hut they have been diffident about making Show entries in the past. Exhibits from some such of nip- good friends will be very heartily welcomed by the Association officials. What on* bus to remember is that the A .and P. Show belonging to one’s particular centre, is a great educative exhibition, arranged by enthusiastic workers solelv and wholly for the benefit of the district at large, because they j realise its value. It therefore, is
surely, a farmer’s duty to give the most liberal support, in every way he can, to Ins own Show. Stratford* farmers should bear this in mind, and come forward freely with entries lor the coming Show at'Stratford. It is fairly certain that support from other places will be as great as ever.
