Aii Adelaide cable announces the death of Mr Robert Barr Smith, millionaire merchant and philanthropist, aged 91 years. Mr W. G. K. The deceased, with her "husband, whof 'predeceased her by over six years, came to New Zeldand in the ship Lady Josland in 1876, landing at Lyttelton, after,, which they followed farming pursuits at Springston. They removed to Taranaki 19 years ago, and farmed land on the Brecon and Brooke’s Hoads for years, where they made many friends. Deceased leaves to molirn her loss three sons (Mr George Cockhead, Palmerston North. < Mr John Cockhead, Feilding, Mr Ernest > Cockhead, Cambridge), and one daughter (Mrs Max Gernhoefer) Toko. Mrs Gernhoefer is specially unfortunate, as lier son was only last night removed to a Stratford private hospital seriously ill from pleurisy following on pneumonia. The sympathy ot the district will he extended to the family in their trouble. The funeral leaves the residence of Mr Gernhoefer for the Kopnatama Cemetery at 1 o’clock ou Wednesday.
