The Federal Premier, Mr Hughes, has decided not to grant clearances to ships carrying wheat which was acquired outside the Federal scheme. Bush fires are raging furiously in the mountains, states a Sydney message. Miles of country are swept by flames and many houses have been destroyed. The tires are equally fierce on the south coast, where great damage is reported. The Prime Minister informed a Wellington Post reporter to-day that the Government ha s taken steps to prevent all men over eighteen leaving the Dominion without a permit from the Minister or from the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs. Regulations have been passed and .adopted, and will be gazetted immediately.—P.A.
