C.J.C. MEETING. CONCLUDING DAY. (Notes by Cicero). The Canterbury Jockey Chib’s Spring Carnival will conclude to-mor-row. The acceptances are first-class, and some capital racing should eventuate. Art is remarkably well handicapped in the Hurdles, and is sure to have a large following. Of a large number in the Cressy Welter, Chndic and Encore are nicely handicapped, and are sure to run prominently. Sir Tarka and Down read well in the Seymour Handicap, a race which bears an open appearance. The Members’ Handicap, of £750, drew an acceptance of twelve, and strange to relate, the handicap is headed by Three, a young three-year-old, who has only won thrice. The exact reason of so many of the heavyweights dropping out is hard to understand. Martins, Bee and Chakwana are a likely trio. Egypt stands right out in the Pioneer Handicap. The Toff may he the most dangerous. The field which will face the starter for the Stead Gold Cup will he a very select one. The weights to ho carried by the contestants are:—Emperador 9.0, Chortle 9.0, First Glance 8.12, Warsteo 8.12, Indigo 8.11, Flying Start 7.12, Desert Gold 7.7. After weighing the pros and cons I have conic to the conclusion that Desert Gold. Warstep and Chortle should cross the line in something like the order named. Three and Tatterley should command support tor the Electric. Whilst Battle Eve and Martins (if started) should he in the fighting line in the decision of the Fehdalton Handicap.
