LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The treasurer of the Belgian Relief Fund desires to acknowledge with thanks receipt from the Toko Patriotic Society of £l7 15s. That the function to-morrow night welcoming home the Returned Soldiers and farewelling the next m-aft of Reinforcements will he a success is assjiiy ed by the offers of help that are coming in from town and country. The hoys who have fought and bled lor their country deserve the best the country can give them, and to-morrow night the residents of this district will have the opportunity of at least expressing their hearty appreciation of the gallant deeds performed by our soldiers. The boys who are going aWay also deserve to have a hearty send-off. They know now that what they will he asked to do requires a great deal of courage and determination. That they will uphold the best traditions of the

men who have gone before them is undoubted. To cheer them to-morrow night will be an honor which should not be. missed. Nothing should prevent the people of Stratford and district from attending the, function, and no dcvubt the Town Hall will he filled to overflowing. His Worship the Mayor states that those returned soldiers in the district whose names the Town Clerk lias not received, and to those men of the Reinforcements in the same position, as well as their relatives, a cordial invitation is extended. Doors will be open at 7.30 p.m., and seats will he reserved for the. returned soldiers, Reinforcements, and relatives of the men. The Hon. J. A. Hanan, Minister of Education, is passing through to New Plymouth this evening as announced yesterday, and will pay a visit to Stratford noxt Friday, and will meet the local educational authorities to discuss matters of interest. The principal subject will be the question of the establishment of a High School lor the district, and it is to be hoped that, in view of the importance [of same, the general public will .be"'enabled; to lie present when the Minister is approached. An itinerary of Mr Hai'ian's trip will be published ' to-morrow, • if possible.
