Yesterday Miss Daisy Henry and Nancy Fittall collected 8s 6d for their Guy Fawkes, which amount they generously Landed to the Ladies’ Patriotic Committee for the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund. A Napier P.A. telegram to-day states: George Bnrness (32), single, was run into by a motor car last night at 7 o’clock and removed to the hospital, where an operation was performed, but he died this morning. Bnrness suffered from deafness, and steplied in front as the car was passing him at a moderate speed. The Mayoress (Mrs J. W. Boon) has forwarded another case of woollen goods to Captain Belton, Defence Shipping Office, King’s Wharf, Wellington, for tlie Taranaki Soldiers’ at the Front, containing ten woollen undershirts, and nine woollen shirts from Ngaere Ladies’ Committee, nine linen handkerchiefs from Puniwliakau School, and other articles previously acknowledged.

A well-attended meeting, of the local branch of the Taranaki Law Society was held in the Court House yesterday to consider the suggestion made by Mr W. G. Kenrick, S.M., that an enlarged portrait of the late Lieutenant-Colonel W. G. Malone be placed in the Court House. After some discussion it was resolved on the motion of Mr 11. The weekly Patriotic Market was held in the C.11.A. Ilnildings to-day, the shop being well stocked and well patronised. If the brisk business experienced this morning be maintained throughout the day the proceeds should benefit the Ladies’ Patriotic Committee’s Funds by a considerable amount. Included in the goods for sale were Christinas puddings, home made sweets and bread, cakes, jam, I fresh vegetables (specially obtained from Wanganui), gooseberries, flowers and, in fact, everything a customer wished to buy. During the day guessing competitions for a side of bacon, 1 a ham, a cushion, and a bag of flour, and two dolls, were conducted. A sheep was also donated and was sold at Newton King’s sale. The Market' I was under the excellent management of Mrs Paget, assisted by Mesdames' Curtis and Massey and a small army, of gay young ladies.
