They stormed our position four times with extraordinarily heavy losses. ‘\y e were forced to withdraw to our lilies between Svenlen and Islen Lakes. The Russians captured the village of Mekulischki. RICA AND DVINSK SAFE. Petrograd, November 4. Colonel Shumsky reports that there is a strategic calm along the entire Russian front. The enemy are preparing for winter elaborate trenches, fitted with stoves, and are repairing railways and roads, and building bridges. A renewal of the strategic aggressive is not expected before the spring, There is no longer any danger to Riga and Dvinsk.
