EARLY CLOSING OF HOTELS. United Press Association. (Received 8.30 a.m.) Sydney, November 1. An indignation meeting in the Town Hall passed a resolution expressing strong indignation at the Government’s proposal of dealing with the liquor problem, and urging that nothing less than six o’clock closing would he effective, and, failing that, demanding a\ referendum on the question. Rev. Hoban, in the course of a fiery speech, said: “I impeach the Government with being unpatriotic. I don’t say they are pro-German, but the practical result of this legislation will he pro-German. He bitterly attacked the Premier’s recent attitude. The meeting adopted a negative resolution. moved by Rey. Hammond, pledging each man not to vote for any politician who would not pledge himself to a referendum- on the early closing of hotels. RETURNED SOLDIERS AND PAY*. WENT OF RELIEF.

The Commandant is permitting newspapers to investigate the questions in regard to the pay of returned soldiers and the cutting up allegations which have been raised. Already it lias been discovered that some men arc applying for relief from the patriotic funds and have drawn up to £9O since September 10th while still being in receipt of service pay.
