PERSONAL.
President Wilson has announced his intention of again contesting the United States Presidency next election. Constable T. Listen, late of Te Wera and Stratford, is under orders to proceed to of which station, he is to take charge. The Legion of Honor has been conferred on Lieutenant Lloyd Findlay, aged 20, son of Sir John Findlay, for great gallantry in the Battle of Huluch on September 13th'. Another of Sir John's sons' (Lieutenant Wilfred Findlay) has been promoted to the rank ,of captain.—P.A.
The Rev. Father O'Bierne, of Inglewood, who has been appointed chaplain to the Expeditionary Forces now in camp at Trentham. was farewelled by the members of his parish and the citizens of Tnglewood on Thursday evening,'when there was a 'large gathering in the Town Hall. After a vocal and instrumental programme had been given, the children of St. Mary's and the pupils of the Convent School, presented the Rev. Father with an address and a handsome black •'garment." Mr F. Spurdle. on behalf of the congregation, with whom' Father, O'Bierne had been associated tinder, strong ties of love and affection for the past three years, presented him with an illuminated address, and the Mayor of luglewood, in a most eulogistic speech on the qualities of their departing friend, presented him with-a purse of sovereigns on behalf of the townspeople. Father O'Bierne, who was received with enthusiastic applause pn rising to reply, expressed his heartfelt thanks for all the kind things said about him. and for the tangible expressions of their goodwill, and in conclusion, assured those present that it was not harder for them to pari with him than for him to leave them all behind. After supper, dancing was indulged in until midnight.
