A panic affected 6fjo children, who dashed to the exits from the hall. The stairway leading from the upper floors was choked by shrieking children. Xeighbours held bla'nkets outside the window#, many children being in-jured-as the result of jumping therefrom . Fifty are missing, and are believed to bo dead. j , The fire consumed the brick structure in so short a time that the brigade was unable to effect rescues. The teachers marshalled the children for fire drill. The alarm was given, however, and one hysterical child screamed.
