The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited have received the following cablegram from their i London house under date 28th' inst:—“Active competition good wool; faulty neglected, compared with first 1 October market firm. Good merino, 1 greasy crossbreds 5 per cent., slipo 2t to 5 higher. America competing.” The Ladies Patriotic Committee desire to acknowledge with thanks the >. receipt of a cheque of £5 from Mr G. N. Curtis towards the Red Cross Fund. The Committee also wishes to acknowledge receipt of the following: Mrs C. Griffin, four feather pillows and feathers for throe more. Mr J. Henry ss, Mrs F. Dixon three feather pillows. Miss Hobbs, two pillows, Mrs* Cramer, half-dozen pillow slips. A Wellington P.A. telegram this afternoon states: The North Island section of the returned wounded arrived by the Mararoa.. Eleven drove through the streets ih motors and had a hearty reception. All were entertained at the Town Hall, where ■ needies of welcome were made by the Governor, Mr Massey. Sir Joseph Ward, Mr Herries, and the Mayor.
