PERSONAL.
Mr Edgar Jones, son of Judge Jones, succumbed to his wounds in Rouen hospital, states a Gisborue P.A. message. The Australian High Commissionership has been definitely offered to Mr Fisher, who, it is anticipated, will tender his resignation at a caucus meeting on Tuesday. Dr. William Gilbert Grace, the famous cricketer, whose death has occurred in England from heart failure, was born on July 18th, .1818. at Downend, Gloucestershire, being the fourth son of a family whose names became historic in the game of cricket. He was an M.R.C.S., England, and li.R. C.P.. Edinburgh, and practised his profession in Bristol until 1899, when he practically retired. It was as n cricketer that Dr. W. G,. Grace was most known and will be remembered, and bis wonderful deeds in the greatest of all games would fill pages. He represented and captained Gloucestershire for 30 years, till 1900. and continuously played for England against Australia. He visited Australia on several occasions with English teams.
