PERSONAL.
Uev. F. T. R«ed, Methodist Minister at Dunedin, lias been appointed chaplain on the Hospital Ship Mamma representing the Methodist, 'Presbyterian, Baptist, and Congregational Churches. The services of the following men have been accepted for the Reinforcements: —Messrs S, R. Rothwell (Cardiff), R. H. Gibbings and A. 3. Steer (Ngaere.) Lieutenant “Paddy” Winder, who enlisted from Stratford died a hero’s death and a tribute is paid him by Lieutenant-Colonel C. E. R. Maekesy, Auckland Mounted Rifles, in a letter which hp wrote as follows to the deceased’s parents (Air and Mrs George Winder, of Pirie Street, Wellington), from Zeitoun Camp, on September Ll: —“Permit me to express my sympathy with you at the loss of your dear son, Lieutenant Winder. Young Winder turned out all you could ask of him. A fearless leader, he was well liked by his troop. He died a soldier’s death while leading a charge on Chuvie Bair, where 80 manv of my brave lads vent down. 1 The bullet that robbed the regiment of a gallant officer took him through the heart, killing him instantly. God grant you comfort. I know what yon feel like. Yet, think i„ the flush of victory, at the head of Lis men, cut off without a second of pain or regret! What hotter ending to a young life could a lather ask for? Man! von can he proud of vonr son as lamof my officer.”
