GENERAL JOFFRE’S GENIUS. United Press Association. (Received 1.55 p.m.) London, October 22. The Daily Telegraph’s Rotterdam correspondent learns from a German staff officer that Berlin military circles regard General Joffre as a genius. Berlin militarists were extremely nervous in the early stages of the Drench attack at Champagne, hut became calmer when the French troops did not succeed in breaking the line. General JoilVe’s plan was peyfect and was unsurpassed by any tactics during the whole war. There was wonderful coordination between the General Staff and the plans and arrangements .for carrying them out were successful. The elaborate manner in which the details worked out and focussed constitutes a remarkable achievement of careful generalship. The officer highly praises the Anglo-French troops. He regards the Indians’ work as a revelation, being a striking contrast to the newspapers’ stuffings at these colored Englishmen. (Received 1.40 p.m.) ■ Amsterdam, October 22. The newspaper Xionws Van Den Dag, commenting on Miss Cavell’s execution, trusts that world-wide protests will he raised in the name of humanity.
