Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. j Stratford branch, report as follows: On Tuesday, 12th October, we held our usual weekly springing heifer sale in our Stratford yards, when we had a fair yarding and cleared nearly every line at the following prices:— Good 3 year old heifers £8 12s 6d to £lO, medium £7 10s to £7 15s, small £7 to £7 os, poorer quality £6 10s to £6 17s 6d, smaller and low conditioned heifers £5 10s to. £6 7s 6d, backward and calved heifers £4 12« 6d to £5 12s 6d, calved heifers showing quality £7 to £7 15s, medium quality £6 15s to £0 17s 6d.
At our Te Wera yards on Friday, loth October, we held our usual monthly sale, when we had a fair yarding of cattle, but no sheep, and we have to report a very successful sale, most lines being cleared at the hammer or afterwards at full market va l ueS :—Store cows (small and poor) £4. 10s to £5 6s, fair quality £5 17s. good lines tip to £7 3s, 2 year old steers (small) £4 9s, yearling steers (small) £2 8s (id, yearling heifers (small) 44s to 40s, medium quality 50s 6d to 57s 6d, empty heifers 71s 0d to 755, medium stuff 88s to 91s, meaty sorts up to £6. Springing heifers, showing quality, met with ready sale, good stuff realising from £8 to £0 10s, medium £5 17s 6d to £7, small £5 to £5 ss, springing heifers, backward and small £4 10s to £4 17s 6d, calved heifers £4 12s 6d for poor quality, up to £0 for well conditioned lines. Dairy cows £6 12s 6d to £7 2s 6d. Our next Te Wera sale will be held Friday, November 12th. At this sale we also offered on behalf of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund (Patriotic Mart), per Mrs Geo. Sangster and Co., one .yearling steer, donated by Mrs O. McAloon, Te Wera, which realised £33. The steer was sold and re-sold as follows: —G. E. Willis at £2, T. R. Mounsey £2, C. H. West at £2, W. A. Good at £2, M. O'Neill at £2, V. H. Nolan at £2, O. McAloon, senr. at £l, McMullian Bros, at £2, O. McAloon, junr. at £l, R. J. Mitchell at £l, W. A. Hewitt (Loan Co.) at £l, A. J. On Monday, 18th October, we held our annual bull fair in our Stratford yards, when we had a good entry of 132 bulls, and are able to report a very satisfactory clearance. Shorthorn and Holstein bulls .appear to be i" better demand than Jerseys. Pedigree Holstein bulls (small) made from £7 15s to 12}gns., 2 year old Jersey bulls (good quality) made from £ll to £l2 ss, poor quality £9 5s to £lO ■los, rough conditioned from £5 to £B, 18 months bulls £3 5s to £4 17s 6d, Shorthorn i bulls (2 year olds) made from £lO 10s to £l4, rough quality Hud thin from £7 to £9. We offered a line, of very nice Shorthorn bulls, bred: by Taylor, of Te Awamutu, on account of Mr J. P.- Gorrigan, Hawera,. which met with 'keen competition, and sold as follows ice coated and conditioned 2 year 1 bids 18*.to: 1 21 gns., rougher coated' I*l to ilZgns., younger sorts 15 to 18gm: Holstein bulls (2 year olds) £9 5s to £ll, 20 month bulls (rough coated, fair quality) £6 15s to £7 10s, 15 to 18 month bulls £4 2s Od to £5, Polled Angus bulls £9, fair sorts £3 7s Od to £0 7s (id. Several pedigree Hols'tein bulls were offered on account of Mr 11. T. P. Mellow, Kaponga, but these were passed in, as the quality was in advance of the demand, at prices from 22i to 40gus. On Tuesday, 19th October, we held our fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards. We had a fair yarding of cattle ; and sold practically everything at advanced rates, more especially for store cows : _Fat cows £lO 6s to £ll, good forward cows £7 13s to £8 ss, medium £7 3s to £7,65,' small store cows in good condition made from £0 Is to £6 15s Od, lower conditioned stores made £5 2s 6d to £5 19s, aged cows' £4 10s to £4 12s Od, empty heifers £3 6s 6d to £3 10s, yearling heifers £2 5s to £2 19s, 18 months steers £4 3s, yearling lifeers i(poor quality) £2 5s 6d, fair lilies £3 12s Od, I !?ordinary bulls ■ £5 0s to £5 lis, yearling-;bulls £2 8s to £3 15s. , ■ : Our next Stratford sale will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd. On Tuesday, 19th inst., we also held our weekly springing heifer sale in our Stratford yards, when we had a good yarding and disposed of most lines at fully late rates, more particularly for heifers showing quality. Good 3 year old heifers made £7 7s 6d to £8 10s, smaller sorts £6 10s to £7 ss, low conditioned £5 10s to £0 2s backward calved heifers £4 5s to £5 2s 6d, cows showing quality £6 17s 6d to £9 2s 6d. In our pig pens we had a small entry, but the competition was keen, fair stores making 30s 6d to 335. Our next springing heifer sale will be held on Tuesday, 26th October. On Tuesday, 19th inst., we also held our usual fortnightly sale of wool, hides skins, tallow, . etc., our catalogue" consisting of 1012 packages. The attendance was hardly up to the usual
number, and prices were about par with last, sale's values :—Crutchjngs to Sild, dead wool lOd to 10}d, fleece wool IOJd to lOfd, scoured fleece up to Is per lb. Sbeepskins were in [better demand and had advanced fu price from }d to Id per 1!)., pelts 3Jd, damaged skins up to G\d, hoggets and lambs sid to 6i'd, hoggets' skins 9d to 10id, full woolled skins (fair pelts) 9£d to lOd, medium woolled Bsd to Bjjd, torn and damaged 6Jd to 6fd, salted sheepskins (fair skins) 3s 7d for light skins, to 6s 6d for heavies. Hides, generally speaking, were easier. Light cowhides made from 6d to 7d, fleshy and cut 6|d to od', slippy 5d to 6d, yearling bides (fair quality) OJd to 7d, slippy and dirty 5d to 6£d, calfskins (medium) BJd to 9d, fleshy Bjd, fleshy, cut and dirty Oid to 7d, Tallow in tins 21s per cwt. Bones £1 per ton. Clients will kindly note that all the above were farmers' lines. I Our next wool, hide, and skin sale will be held on Tuesday, November 10th.
