STRATFORD SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Stratford School Coummittee was held on Tuesday evening, when there were present: Messrs P. Skoglund (chairman), T. C. Fookes, E. W. Hancock, P. J. McDonald, W. McDonald, and H. Sanderson. Mr F. Tyrer (headmaster) reported as follows: The annual examination of the Primary School is to begin tomorrow, and the school is to be medically examined next week. 1 have to thank your committee for its action in applying for the registration of our school colors. 1 The application has been granted fby the Education Department and) a description of the school bhdge' <|olors has appeared ill a ijecent '(Gazette. The work at the distHet scnool 'gardens is proceeding satisfactorily under the supervision of Mr Ellis. Some of the work is being done in conjunction with Mr Baylis,- of the Agricultural Department. A small plot has been planted with the Iluakura Oat with the object of testing its blight resisting qualities in this district. The tennis ground needs some attention, and the eleagnus hedge requires cutting back. Since I your last meeting special classes for school children from the East lioad district have been opened in the Stratford Technical School, with the Education Board's special teachers in charge. The subjects taken are dairy science, and agriculture .(Mr El : lis), cooking and domestic science (Mrs Grant), and woodwork (Mr Sandford). The apparatus available in our science room is of great value to the instructor when dealing with dairy science and agriculture. —Adopted. It was decided to ask the caretaker to cut the eleagnus hedge at the new playground. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Skoglund, F. J. McDonald, and W. McDonald, was elected to report on the- caretaker's duties and on the management of the baths. On the motion of Mr F. J. McDonald, seconded by Mr Hancock, it was decided to ask the Borough Engineer to advise as to the best means of draining the tennis court and the new playground. lb• was-decided that the chairman and Headmaster deal with the request of Miss Fleming, of St. Mary's School, re the use of the baths.
