Jroopor Charles Thompson, mounted section of the Third lleiuforcements, died in Wellington Hospital yesterday, ilo was invalided back from Egypt by tbe \\ iniineia and had since been an inniato of the Dunedin Hospital. He "as on his M'ay to Auckland in search ol health, but Mas taken suddenly ill in Wellington. -Mr Harold Beauchamp, chairman of directors ot the Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, has received iicms that his only son, Leslie Heron Beauchamp, was accidentally killed in I'ranee last Ihursday. He held a commission in the Bth Baettalion, South Lancashire Regiment, and had only recently gone to France, after serving eight months’ training in different parts oi England. Lieut. Beauchamp was a native of Wellington, tweutyono years of age, and was educated at Waitaki High School. Before he left Wellington for London, last Christmas eve, lie urns in the office of -Messrs Wk M. Bauuatyne and Co. He was a very popular young mau. Mr C. F. Jackson, well-known to many people in the Stratford district,! "here he was with the late Mr Alf. Bayly at Toko for some ten years, and who has latterly been managing a station in Hawke’s Bay, is leaving for England at the end of this month to offer his services at the front. Mr Jackson went through the South African campaign M'ith the Fourth Ncm’ Zealand Contingent, and saw the war' right out after considerable active service. Mr Jackson retired with the rank of Sergeant-Major and is the proud possessor of two medals and scveii clasps. For some mouths he was doing officers’ work and should have no difficulty in obtaining a commission in the Imperial service. Messrs Bayly and Jackson sail by the Manuka for Sydney on October 21st, and join I lie Medina which sails for England on the 30th hist.
