Stratford branch, report as follows: On 'Tuesday, 28tli September, we held our usual weekly springing hcifor sale in our Stratford yards, when wo had ;t large entry ol 72 head and cleared most lines at pi.aent ma inset values, but, generally speaking, the' value of heifers is disappointing this year. There was a large attendancej of the public. In our heifer yards on the same date ive had a yarding of 35 heifers and a fair number of buyers attended, but the market was very much slacker and prices not so good as at previous sales. Good 3 year olds were scarce and made £8 to £9, not so close up £7 os to £7 17s 6d, poorer sorts £6 to £<. good two year olds and close to profit £5 10s to £6 IDs, not so close up £5 to £ti. poorer sorts £1 10s to £5. I" our pig yards we had four breeding sows, which sold Iroin £3 10s to £3 15s.
On Thursday, 7th October, we held the opening sale of the season in our Kohuratahi yards, when we had a yarding of 105 cattle, 222 sheep, and 2 horses. There wag a very large attendance of the public and practically everything was sold at full market values. Prices realised were as follows: —Good forward cows £6 10s to £7, smaller framed cows £5 12s 6d to £6 6s, small store cows £5 to £5 10s, 3 year empty heifers £4 10s to £4 16s, 6 year steers £B. 2 year heifers £3 10s, yearling steers £3 7s to £3 10s, smaller £2 13. s to £3, yearling heifers 35s to 41s 6d, smaller 30s, hacks £6 to £7. Our next Kohuratahi sale will be held on Thursday, .November 4th.
On Friday, Bth inst., we held a clearing sale on account ot Mr David Ulackstoek, Cardiff, when there was a very large attendance ol the public considering that the day was wet. and we have pleasure in repotting a, very satisfactory sale, buyers being in attendance from all parts of the district. Cows (good) £lO 10s to £ls ss, others £S 10s to £lO. heifers in milk £5 to £7, empty cows and heifers £1 to £< heifers 07s (id black and white bull | calves 8s 6d, heifer calves 8s to 13s, horses £2-1 to £2B ss, older horse £ll, store pigs 18s to 31s, sow £2, f-m----ewes (empty) 20s 6d. Since we last reported we have disposed of a considerable amount stock privately at the following rates; y Hoggets (good) 20s 3d to 20sfwl, 1 cully Us Od, ewes with lambs or m lamb 26s to 20s, store cows £5 6s to £5 15s, yearling steers 05s to 755, smaller 50s t.■ 60s, yearling heifers 42s to 455, smaller 30s to 40s, daily heifers (3 year' old) £7 15s to £9, 'poorer £6 to £7 10s. 2 year olds £6 to £7 7s, yearling bulls £2 12s 6d to [£2 15s, 2 year old bulls £7 to £9.
