Wellington, October 11The Governor issued an announcement to the Tress to-day, stating that he has received a telegram from the Marquis of Li-nsdoivne informing him that, in view of the growing demand both in France and the Near East, it (is necessary to make a genera! appeal [for assistance in money for Red <- ross purposes, and ho lias therefore asked Ihis Excellency whether this Dominion jwill assist in organising street and other collections throughout New Zealand on October 21: The money rejceived from i his general appeal will ibe devoted entirely to relieving our 'sick and wounded soldiers and sailors, 'from Home and overseas, at the vari•ous seats of war. j Lord Liverpool adds: "I have accordingly consulted my Ministers on 'the question, and they concurred m [the proposal to lay this telegram bejfore the people of these Islands. ■ While gladly according the patronage and support risked for by Lord Lans'downe, I desire to make it clear that [this appeal emanates from the United •Kingdom. No goods in kind are called 'for. All contributions should be sent 'to the Under-Secretary for Internal ■ Affairs, Wellington, and I will then, J according to instructions, give directions for the amounts to be forwarded jto St. John's Gate, Loudon, while at 'the same time informing His Majesty ithe King." i ■ ——
