Two Germans named Daniel Weir and Francis Edward Stahlhut were sentenced to three years imprisonment for an attempt to wreck the mail train at Marrar by placing an iron fishplate on the rails. The week's recruiting in the State resulted in 581, including 445 city en-' listments. Thirty volunteers have started a 300-miles march from Gilgandra to Sydney, recruiting en route. Other route marches are projected as part of the new recruiting campaign. Melbourne, October 11. The Naw Department has decided to undertake the re-flotation of the Emden, and will despatch a gunboat equipped for the purpose. Perth, October 11. Recruiting is declining. The weeks total was 108. Two cases of meningitis are reported, one being in the military camp.
