Husbandman is a proved racehorse and a genuine stayer, winning amongst numerous other races, the Canterbury Derby, Great Northern Derby, and the Wellington Handicap, defeating the great mare Lady Medallist in the latter race. He is full-brother in blood to the champion Autumnus (winner of over £6OOO in stakes), and who, in his first season at the stud, was commanding a fee of twenty guineas. Husbandman comes from a noted sire family No. 14, the same as the unbeaten Danube, whose fee is thirty guineas per mare. Husbandman stands over 16 hands, with great power and substance, and is a sure foal-getter, and is just the horse to get racehorses and hunters of the first quality. Husbandman's breeding is unassailable. Hie grandsire, Bill of Portland, is the sire of Bobadil and Malster, whose descendants have between them won the enormous sum of £46,611 in stakes in Australia last season.
