The profits of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting were £7.10 Hi* 9cl, and tire committee decided to band the amount to the Wanganui Patriotic Committee. —P.A. / Weather forecast-The indications are for easterly strong to gale prevailing at times. A committee of the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales* passed the following resolution: against the King’s representatives encouraging racing by his attendance; at all times racing is a menace to the morality of the community, and is especially dangerous in war- time; we cannot find terms sufficiently strong to indicate our abhorrence of, such national hypocrisy, which on the one hand pleads for recruits and economy, and on tire other encourages, am institution which exercises conspicuously deleterious influence and causes an extraordinary- waste of money through gambling. The cablegram states that copies of tire resolution, are to be sent to the Governor-General, the Prime Minister, and the State Premiers. -r, v' ‘ ' \
