A vast improvement is being, made at the entrance to the railway station. the Government having seen fit to build up the section lately occupied by Mercer’s premises to the same height as the road. \ A Christchurch Press Association telegram states that light rain fell in North Canterbury during the night and this morning, breaking the drought, which has practically extended for three months. It has come too'late to save heavy loss in ewes and lambs, but it means a big improvement. The season’s wool clip is heavy. Two to three hours’ downfall would be welcome. Standard If. girls, of the Stratford School, under Miss Hogg, have just finished a second lot' of garments for the Belgian chi'dren. and thirty-one little dresses were sent along to Mr G. X. Curtis this afternoon to be forwarded to their proper destination. Tne boys of the class found the money to buy the material for these dresses, which were made up by the girls. Ihe children of the class are to he <W plimCnted on their good work.
