We counter-attack-ed and reocoupied them, inflicting heavy losses. We also reoccupied the trendies near the river Madziolki. and carried some villages in the frozen ny region. We crossed the Spisglitzy river to the western bank, and took hundreds of prisoners and many quicktirers. Amsterdam,, October 4. The Russians, after strong artillery preparation, attacked General Hindenburg’s forces between Postavvye and .Morgon, but the attacks collapsed. with heavy enemy losses. Copenhagen, October 5. The reports of the cessation of German ferries indicate that the enemy will use ferry boats for the transport of troops through Kiel Canal. London, October 5. The Times’ Petrograd correspondent says that there is continuous improvement in artillery. The advent of huge reinforcements lias enabled Russia to take a firm stand. General Ruszkyp is hammering at General von Bnelow’s left flank from the diretcion of Mitan, may cause a diversion favoring Dvinsk. The Russians re-captured Postavk, and have finally broken up the enemy’s front on the Solymolodetclina-Glnbo-koi-Vidzy line. They dispersed the Germans at Svientsiany, and met with successes on the eastern situation at Dvinsk, but they are tot yet free from ]ieril by envelopment. London, October 4. The Czar has agreed to General Knropatkin’s , appointment to the army after repeated applications for the privilege to shed his blood for the country.
