EDUCATION BOUNDARIES.
TARANAK! CUT OUT. I'rh Press Association. Wellington, October I. The report of the Education Boundaries Commission was laid on the table of tlie House to-day. The I\linister said the report would be discussed to-morrow afternoon. The report recommends seven districts, as follows:—Auckland. Wan--ganui District:—All that area being Canterbury, Otago. and Southland. Oi the small boards proposed to be abolished Grey and Wesfcland, with part of Nelson, go into Canterbury, and Marlborough. Collingwood, and Murchison go into Wellington. Following is the official description of the new boundaries of the W:uiganui District:—Allthat area being the counties of Awakino, Ohura, Kaitieke, Clifton, Whangamomoua, Taranaki, Stratford, Waimarino, Egmont, Elthain, Waimate West, Hawera, Patea, Waitotara, Wanganui, Rangitikei. Kiwitea, Manawatu, Oroua, Phaugina, and Kairanga, Manawatu. Oroua, rhaiigina, and Kairanga, including all boroughs and town districts therein; chief town, Wanganui. Explaining the disappearance of the Taranaki Education District, the Boundaries Commission report states : "As to Taranaki, the extension of territory suggested by the Hoard did not commend itself to the Commission. It involved the transference of certain counties, namely, Awakino. Ohura. West Taupo, Waitoino, and Kawhia, from the south of the Auckland district, and in addition the taking of four counties, namely, Elthom, Waimate West, Hawera, and Patea. from the Wanganui district, the latter being compensated by taking from HawIce's Bay a very large area, east ol the Manawatu Gorge, including the counties of Woodville. Weber, Dannevirke. Potangata, Waipuluirau. and Wuipaiva, which could have no community of interest, with Wanganui, and Huwke's Bay in its turn was to receive compensation from the Auckland district by the addition of certain counties, including Opotiki, Whakatane, East Taupo, Rotorua, and even Pioko, Taurauga, and Matamata. Only in this way could a Taranaki district of reasonable size he obtained. It appears to us that such an arrangement would create greatly-increased difficulties of administration in all three districts, without any compensating importance."
