At the Auckland Police Court,' Thomas Frances Houlihan, a secondhand dealer, who was charged with, receiving stolen goods, was sentenced to six months in prison. The Press Association states that notice of appeal has been given. ' Weather Forecast.—The indications are for westerly winds strong to gale and backing by west ,to south. The weather appears likely to. be cloudy and unsettled. Rain probable. Barometer unsteady with a falling tendency.— Bates, Wellington. In an application at Wellington .for administration of the estate of Douglas Percival Boyd, late of Rangiora. a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, the Full Court drew attention to the fact that a soldier's will need not be attested in the ordinary way, but may take the form of a letter. ~ .
The Minister of Education stated in the House to-day that the Government does not agree with the: recommendation of the Royal Commission limiting the number of to seven, and the Government intends bringing in'a Bill increasing "the number to .nine.: Notice of the Bill was given this;afternoon. It is probable that this means five districts in the North Island and four districts in the South Island.—, P. A.
Thi* morning a resident-of Stratford had a very anxious time hunting lot "the apple of his eye"—his boy. At 10,30 he had chartered'two motor cars and two men on bicycles for the hunt. which lasted close oil three hours, and when things looked very black and hopeless, the distracted father was heard to remark: "Once round the town. Campbell, and then we will have to drag the creek." Fortunately, however, these extreme measures had not to be resorted to. as just then the little fellow of about two summers was seen quite unconcernedly wending his wav towards his father's shop in Broadway.
