PERSONAL.

Private C. Potts returned to Stratford this morning on leave for a few days. Lieutenants Ma reliant and Foley left for Wellington by the express this morning. ' Mr A. C. Hunter left for the ! N.C.O.'s training camp at Trenthain ' by the mail train this morning. Private K. J. Tayler, son of Mr G. W. Tayler. of Eltham, has been admitted to King George's Hospital, London. Mr J. B. Hine. M.P., after spending tho week end at his home at , Toko, left for Wellington by the mail j train this morning. Mr J. W. Boon (The Mayor) and Mrs Boon returned to Stratford from Auckland on Saturday evening. During the Mayor's absence, Or. J. H. Thompson acted as Deputy-Mayor. The Rev. Henry J. O'Dell ,a Methodist clergyman, of Tatimarunui. has volnunteered for active service in the ranks, and has been instructed to go into camp on October 11th. Mrs. A. Simons, Tariki, has received an official telegram notifying her , that her son, Private A. Simons, who is in the hospital at Alexandria, is progressing favourably. Mr P. Preo, who has occupied a position of responsibility in the service of the Rivefdale Dairy Company, at Inaha, for a number of years, has been appointed manager of the Moa Co-operative Dairy Company's general store in the Inglewood district. In Saturday's list of recruits ing on Monday next the name C. L. Kivell should have read C. M. Kivell, of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, Stratford. Mr C. L. Kivell 'is also going into camp, but leaves from | Dannevirke, where he enlisted. Private George Nlcholls, of Inglewood, who was recently reported wounded, writing from Cairo, states that he was wounded in the hip. After being wounded, Nicholls walked three miles to the base. He stated that he was progressing favorably. Mr A. F. Thomson, manager of the Inglewood branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who has been transferred to Whangarei, wa H farewelled at a social gathering at Inglewood on Fri- j day night. There was a large attend- j ance, and the Mayor (Mr G. Young) i presided.

Major (Kirkwood crossed to Franco sometime in August. A very quiet wedding was performed by the Rev. H. C. Howard at the Church 'of England, Regan Street, at nine o'clock this morning when Mr R; Evans (Patea) was married to Miss. Bertha O'Leary (Stratford). Mr Remington gave the bride away, while Mr Tichbon acted as best man. Mr C. T. T. Foley, late of the Bank's Christchurch office, arrived in Stratford on Friday evening last to take Mr Hunter's place in the National Bank, Mr Hunter having been a week's holiday leave prior to going into camp with the next batch of volunteers from this district.
