H.M.N.Z.S. PHILOMEL. THREE CASUALTIES REPORTED. Per Press Association. Wellington, September 30. The Defence Minister has received a communication from Captain HallThompson of the Philomel, which, as is generally known, is operating ‘‘Somewhere East of Suez.” The captain reports that the following three members of the crew lost their lives in action against the Turks on September 25.: George Phillips, chief Petty Ufiicor. George Richard Talmay. loading seaman. Bruce Sydney Beagley, able seaman. All the men were members of the Royal Navy lent for service with the j Philomel. They died of heat stroke. They were on the strength of two I maxim gun crews which wore landed Horn the shin to combine with the forces ashore. G packets cigarette tobacco.' 1 box cigars (donated). 1 tin biscuits (donated). 2 dozen pipes. 9 dozen safety matches. 11 packets stationery and envelopes. 6| dozen writing pads. 1000 envelopes. 8 dozen lead pencils. 4 dozen tins chocolate. 2 dozen cakes chocolate. 2 dozen sanitary requisites. 6 packets chewing gum (donated). 4 dozen Christmas cakes. < In addition, there is a large parcel of cigarettes forwarded by a private donor, and seven parcels sent' for individual soldiers by personal friends. Each separate item is stamped Christmas Gifts from Stratford, New Zealand, and the receipients have been asked to acknowledge parcels, if possible, to Town Clerk, Stratford. In addition to the articles marked “donated.” part of the sweets, cigarettes, and tobacco, was also donated. The | hampers were forwarded to Wellington yesterday.

LADIES’ PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE The general committee meeting of .the Ladies’ Patriotic Committee, held on September 25th, Mrs Hine presiding, decided, owing to the immense .amount of sewing in hand, to postpone the bazaar to have been held in December. The Dardanelles Shop is to |be continued every Saturday, at which afternoon tea must not be dispensed often er than once a mpnth. The takings from this shop are to be paid into the general fund. Mrs Sangster and Mi's Malone were appointed a shop committee. A letter was read from *Mrs Luke (Mayoress of ' Wellington), asking for Hospital Ship bed equipment, and it was resolved to supply five beds. Sand bags will not be sent from New Zealand after September ■ 30th, as they can be made in India .much cheaper, and the Government has ordered thousands. Forty five lea•ther waistcoats were forwarded to Wellington last week for waterproofing and fastenings, and 40 more follow I this week. Sirs Richards and Mrs Burrell were added to the general committee. Money was received as follows:—Mr Barron £5, Miss Fowler 1 16 s, Mrs Good 10s 7d. Mrs Curtis ss, | Mis Petrie £1 18s.
