Mr A. V. Penn, Sub-Collector of Customs,at Auckland, has been appointed to the position of Collector of Customs at Wellington. Mr Penn is a brother of Messrs T. H. and C. Penn, of Stratford. “ The fruit industry at Nelson is suffering a severe loss in the departure of Mr T. H. Torode, Manager of the Moufere Fruitgrowers’ Ltd, who has enlisted and is proceeding to Trenthani shortly, states a Nelson message. Mr Torode has done great work improving the methods of marketing.
