TELEGRAM CHARGES.

THE NEW RATES. The Chief Postmaster last night advised r—"From to-day the charges on teleSi rams are to be "as follows :—For ordinary 'telegrams, delivered within the Dominion on week days, for twelve words or less, including address ami signature, urgent l s 2d, ordinary 8d; " extra words Id and Id each, respectively. On Sundays; urgent 2s (id, or- " ' dmaiv Is 2d; extra words 2d and Id each, respectively. Sunday rates to be charged at all offices without exception: The alteration in the rates means an addition of 2d to the rates hitherto ' charged on week days and Sunday, and makes the Sunday rate apply at all offices. Km- cable messages ihc . ■charges are. to be as hitherto, plus 2d for each message." ■The Postmaster-General announces that from yesterday the postage rates on" all postal packets, including parcels, but excepting newspapers, are j raised by one halfpenny, both for jkic- " kets addressed for delivery within the Dominion and for those addressed for \ delivery beyond the Dominion. In countries to which the maximum Postal I'nion rates are already charged. that is to say. 2U\ for the first ounce 'and l',d lor each succeeding ounce of letters, no additional charge will be made (the Postal Union rates are fullyset out at the'beginning of the post and telegraph guide). Postal packets not prepaid on this scale, but wanting only the halfpenny additional charge. will not be surcharged on delivery with. x ulore than the deficient postage.
