FIRE-FIGHTERS BEATEN. THE ATHENAI ABANDONED. ALL HANDS REACH NEW YORK. United Press Association. (Received 9.50 a.m.) New York, September 22. The Tuscania has arrived with 409 survivors from the Greek steamer | Athenai, which was abandoned on fire . at sea. The crew fought the fire for j thirty-six hours, assisted by some passengers. "5.0.5." calls brought the Tuscania, who" sent a fire-fighting party aboard. They were unable to get the flames under control, and the captain decided to abandon' the ship. All aboard were taken safely to the Tuscania and the Roumanian Prince, the latter of which is due to-morrow. THE SILENT PATROL. WORK FOR YACHTSMEN AND ENGINEERS. (Received 10.50 a.m.) London, September 22. Mi- Marks, a Sydney yachtsman who is in England, speaking of patrol, work in the North Sea is of opinion that an opening exists for the naval volunteer reserve, competent yachtsmen, and motor boat engineers \vhose services would be much value. He is communicating with the Admiralty on the' subject. DUTCH STEAMER MINED. NO LIVES LOST. (Received 11.15 a.m.) London, September 22. The Dutch steamer, Koningen Emma, was mined.
