California has just passed a law by which, so its advocates claim, the State will ultimately become the sole marketing authority of the country. “There is hereby created”’) the new law runs, “the State Commission Market, a State organisation to carry on the business of receiving from the producers thereof the agricultural, fishery, dairy, and farm products of the State of California, and the selling and disposing of the same on commission.” Tiie Act further creates the office of a State Commission Market Director, with a salary of £IOOO a year; tary, at £720 a year; and as many employees as may be deemed necessary. Further, the sum of £SOOO is. voted, as capital to commence the venture. AP fee is to be charged on each transaction (commission), the) amount to he fixed by the Commissioher, and these fees are to lie placed in a fund which is first of all to replace the £SOOO advanced by theßtate, and then to build up a further fund for the extension of the work pi such directions as may he found inecessary.
