A Dargaville message states that the Northern Wairoa Queen Carnival, which resulted in the election of Miss Amburv (Farmers' Queen), realised £(5091. with further sums to come.
The death occurred suddenly last evening of Rev. H. S. Gascoyne Kfaid, of .St. Peter's Anglican Terrace End, Palmerston. Deceased was a son ol Dr. Bear, formerly of Mastorton, and was only twenty-eight years of age. He bad not enjoyed good bealt'li for some time, and leaves a widow.
A Press Association telegram from Levin states: H. E. Lodge, late Horowhenua County Council clerk, was ar-rested-at Rangiotu Training Cjunp on Saturday, cliarged with intent' to defraud, that he omitted ,to- enter .par-, ticulars of the receipt of £32 18s 2d. He was brought to Levin, and was remanded to appear before Mr Poynton. S.M.. on Thursday, September 23. Bail was allowed in his own recognisance, of £IOO, and two sureties of £SO each. Five other charges arepending.
The final football match for the Xorth Taranaki School Boys' Championship was played between the Stratford District High School and the Xew Plymouth . High School Preparatory D'epartmient; at Tnglewood, on Saturday, when neither side registered a score. For the' local team, MeGuUoch, Cameron, Council. AY. Grubb.(wing,forward, f and Thorp (halfback) played well.
