' 1 From the above it will be noticed that the Infantry Brigade has been the heaviest loser, suffering no less than 4748 of the total casualties, or more than the Brigade's original strength. The Mounted Rifles Brigade and Otago Mounted Rifles Regiment have also lost heavily, their total casualties being 1204. Of the various! units the Wellington Infantry Battalion has had the 'greatest losses, totalling 1376 officers and men.
